The Borders Day Tour

THE BORDERS DAY TOUR

The Borders are only a thirty minute drive from Edinburgh and have so much to offer.

They are steeped in history, it was the ancient home of Pictish tribes, occupied by Roman troops, and the route by which invading Scots or English armies passed through on their way to battles at Stirling Bridge; Bannockburn; or Flodden.

It was settled by monks at the magnificient abbeys of Melrose, Dryburgh and Jedburgh.

Due to its isolation from the centres of power in England and Scotland it was a lawless place that gave rise to the Border Reivers - families who took to the reiving or stealing of cattle and other goods.

It also has a long history producing textiles and today it excels in the production of high quality cashmere and wool garments - many destined for the showrooms of leading fashion houses.

Other attractions include the new Borders Whisky Distillery, not to mention Born in the Borders Gin. The Borders were also the home to Sir Walter Scott and his beloved house - Abbotsford.
