Stirling and Trossachs Day Tour

STIRLING AND THE TROSSACHS DAY TOUR

Visit Stirling Castle located high up on volcanic rock which affords an imposing view across the landscape to the Ochil Hills. This site has been used for fortifications for well over 1000 years and was home to successive Stuart monarchs including Mary Queen of Scots.

From the castle walls you can look down over the River Forth and see where William Wallace and Andrew Moray defeated the English at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297 and beyond to commemorate this victory you can see (and visit) the National Wallace Monument.

Near to Stirling is also the site of the Battle of Bannockburn, now preserved by the National Trust for Scotland. Here the Scots forces of Robert the Bruce defeated the English in 1314 and which proved to be one of the defining moments in Scottish history.

Doune Castle  is also close by and was the home to the Regent of Scotland the Duke of Albany from the 1360’s but more popularly known as a film location for Monty Python’s Holy Grail, Outlander, and Game of Thrones.

Beyond Doune is is the pretty town of Callander located in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and from where scenic drives can be taken along the Duke’s Pass and over to Loch Lomond.
